A heat pump is the system most Winter Haven homes should be on: one unit that cools all summer and covers the handful of cold nights Florida throws each winter, on a single efficient piece of equipment instead of two. But a heat pump only performs as well as the install behind it. The brand on the box matters far less than whether it was sized to the house and commissioned correctly — an oversized unit short-cycles, never pulls the humidity out, and wears itself out early. Getting the install right is the whole job.
It’s worth pricing a heat pump when your current system is past saving rather than worth repairing — the compressor has gone, it still runs phased-out R-22, or repairs have turned into an annual event. It’s also the move if you’re heating with electric strip heat or an aging furnace and want one system to do both jobs. If your bills climb every summer and the house never quite gets comfortable, an oversized or failing system is usually why, and a right-sized heat pump is the fix.
Newer heat pumps are also far more efficient than a system a decade old, so part of the cost comes back every month on the power bill.
We start with a load calculation, not a guess off the old unit’s label — square footage, insulation, windows and orientation decide the size, and matching whatever was there before just repeats the last installer’s mistake. We match the air handler to the condenser so the system runs as rated, run and pressure-test the refrigerant lines, handle the electrical and the permit, and commission the system on startup: airflow, charge by weight, and a check that it’s actually pulling humidity, not just hitting a number. We also remove and haul off the old equipment, set the new thermostat, and walk you through how the system runs before we leave.
What a heat pump costs depends on the size and efficiency the house actually needs and on what has to change to fit it — the ductwork, the electrical, the pad. We quote it as one written number after Jon has seen the house, not over the phone, and the assessment itself is free. Financing is available, so a system replacement doesn’t have to be paid all at once. We’ll also tell you honestly when a repair still makes more sense than replacing.
